Generation Tech Support was an entrepreneurial idea developed by Shadow Mountain High School GenYES students and their instructor, Debbie Kovesdy. For years, students completed work on this real-world business plan, researching demographics, designing an operational handbook, calculating profit and loss scenarios, evaluating methods of operation and aligning with industry tech leaders.
The GenYES Entrepreneurship team won gold medals in the State and National SkillsUSA Championships in the summer of 2015. Many industry leaders enthusiastically supported their idea and encouraged further development.
After a unanimous vote by vested students, the “GenTechs” elected to “go out on their own.” They sought mentors and capital.
“THE MISSION OF GENTECH IS TO EMPOWER TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS AND PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES TO ADVANCE CAREER, INCOME, LEADERSHIP AND BUSINESS SKILLS.”
In January 2016, Kovesdy submitted an application to the Cisco Foundation for the Global Impact Grant program, identifying a mission to empower technology students through a tech start up enterprise. The student service would provide technology help to the general public in understanding emerging technologies.
On a day to day basis, GenTech students work together to build and improve their store. They make company decisions as stakeholders, learn new technologies and are actively involved in the operational aspects of the business.
GenTech students have made many modifications and have succeeded in building a distinctive business model.
Generation Tech employs students from Glendale Union, Thunderbird High, Scottsdale School District, Chaparral High and Paradise Valley School District; Shadow Mountain High, PV High, North Canyon and Horizon High.
In June 2017, our first middle school student joined the GenTech ranks. Interested technology students are invited to participate. Apply here.
Generation Tech has set its sights on creating additional enterprise hubs in school districts across the state. If your school would like to collaborate with us please contact us here.
“GENERATION TECH WILL CONSISTENTLY IMPROVE TECHNOLOGY SERVICES TO COMMUNITIES WHILE TEACHING STUDENTS ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN A SUCCESSFUL WORKING MODEL.”
All GenTech stores will feature walk-in help desk technology services, a high tech “Innovation Center” area to invent, corroborate and experience cutting edge tech. GenTech will also offer cool workshops and tech events to “get your geek on” for all age groups, techkids to seniors.
Most significantly– as a patron to Generation Tech– you are supporting student entrepreneurship. The GenTechs who serve you will directly benefit as stakeholders of the company, in scholarships and company profits.
